Why do History?

Are you fascinated by the past? Do you have an inquiring mind? Do you want to search for reasons why things happened the way they did? History combines the excitement of exploration and discovery with the sense of reward born of making sense of complex evidence and problems. History is one of the most highly regarded and established of subjects.

What will I study?

As well as developing vital analytical skills through investigation, interpretation and evaluation of evidence you will develop expertise in historical skills and acquire knowledge and understanding of historical events and issues. You will study a range of modern history topics, including:

  • The unification of Germany
  • Britain and India
  • The unification of Italy.

The extra stuff at RSFC

Students of history will benefit from a wide range of college organised trips and visits to various sites of historical interest. Visits may also include trips abroad to the countries whose history you will be studying. There will also be many enrichment opportunities, including an Ancient History society.

What can I do with History after college?

An advantage of studying History is that it is a very broad subject. Students can go on to university and then specialise in a range of subject areas. It provides skills and understanding that will always be valuable in any career.

What do I need to do History?

You will need to meet the normal college entry criteria for AS/A2 courses.
