Why do Government and Politics?
Have you ever wondered who has the power to make decisions and who does not? Whether we like it or not, Politics affects virtually every thing we do. It is responsible for the type of houses we live in, the amount of money we earn, the quality of education we receive so, frankly, we cannot avoid it. If we can’t avoid it, it is better to understand it. Politics is an interesting and exciting course at RSFC, which will allow you to understand the decisions that are taken on our behalf and how they affect all aspects of our lives. You will acquire an understanding of how political decisions are made and who has the power and authority to make those decisions.
What will I study?
In the first year you’ll focus on issues such as the mechanics of government including the European Union, Parliament and the role of the Prime Minister, local government and the civil service. In your second year you will focus on political systems and political ideologies including fascism and socialism.
The extra stuff at RSFC
During the course, there will be many opportunities for trips and visits to places such as the Houses of Parliament. Not only will you benefit from outstanding teaching, you will also be given the chance to hear from guest speakers who are experts in Politics.
What can I do with Government and Politics after college?
This subject is a pathway to a career in broadcasting, journalism, the legal profession, the police force and to becoming civil servants or clerks in the House of Commons. The subject combines well with a variety of other subjects including History, Law, Sociology and Psychology.
What do I need to do Government and Politics?
You will need to meet the normal college entry criteria for AS/A2 courses.
