AS/A2 Geography

Why do Geography?

Does the earth fascinate you?
Our earth is constantly changing and this is a great course to take if you have an interest in the world around you – a highly topical and diverse course, no matter what your aspirations are. Geography describes and explains the past, present and future and impacts on human behaviour, affecting all aspects of our everyday lives. It is therefore an extremely exciting subject and one, which combines approaches from both social and physical sciences.

Geography

What will I study?

This course will cover both physical and human geography. Physical Geography includes the study of rivers, glaciers, coastal scenery, plate tectonics as well as meteorology and climate. Human Geography is concerned with population studies, urban settlement and modern industry. Additional studies will cover contemporary hazards such as earthquakes, volcanoes, tidal waves, hurricanes, pollution, health hazards and even burglaries. Fieldwork, both locally and abroad, is an important element of the course and some of the fieldwork is residentially based. Throughout the course, you’ll take an investigative approach to the subject and develop your observational skills in greater depth.
