Why do Drama and Theatre Studies?

Do you want to improve your communication with others and develop your creative talents? As a drama student you will study theatrical texts, learn about the major playwrights of the world and also get the chance to perform, direct and design a theatre production. This subject is suitable for experienced and talented dramatists, who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of Drama theory and practice.

What will I study?

In the first year, you will study at least four different play texts, developing your understanding of the writing, directing and performance of the texts. Regular theatre visits are a must, some of which will be organised by college. There will be lots of practical work in the theatre, where you will get to create your own theatre production. In the second year, you will focus on your improvisation and devising skills and study theatre history and a set text.

There is a significant writing element to the course and you will work towards a written portfolio of notes that will count towards your assessment.

What can I do with Drama and Theatre Studies after college?

Drama is often taken alongside subjects such as Dance and Performing Arts as the content of these courses complement each other well. A variety of options are open to you for university, including the opportunity to study performance and drama further.

What do I need to do Drama?

You will need to meet the normal college entry criteria for AS/A2 courses. In addition, you should have some acting experience.
