AS/A2 P.E. and Sport

Why do P.E. and Sport?

This is a dynamic and stimulating course, which will help you develop an appreciation of the importance and nature of sport and exercise. You will obviously participate in a wide range of sports, whilst looking at sport in terms of the human body, psychology and its importance in society. You will also devise personal training programmes. The course is designed for those students who either have simply an interest in sport and some sporting ability or who have a clear inclination to establish a career within the Sport, Leisure and Recreation industries.

What will I study?

On this course there are units in Sport Psychology, Sport Physiology and Sport History within the context of culture and society.

You will:

  • develop your practical skills in sporting activities of your choice
  • discuss the issues that surround sport in today’s world
  • look at how the body works and how you can help it work better
  • look at how to prepare for optimum sports performance

Students of P.E. and Sport will benefit from outstanding facilities and state-of-the art equipment and technology, including a fitness suite and stunning sports facilities shared with Heywood Sports Village. In addition, there will be a wide range of sports options available as enrichment activities, including football, rugby, cricket, netball, badminton, basketball and much more. Students with outstanding sporting ability will be able to participate in college sports teams, playing other colleges in the North West.

What can I do with P.E. and Sport after college?

Combined with A-level subjects such as biology, sociology and psychology, you will be equipped to study sport science-related degrees such as sport management, sport therapy, teaching, sport coaching and physiotherapy.

What do I need to do P.E. and Sport?

You will need to meet the normal college entry criteria for AS/A2 courses. In addition, you will need some sporting ability.
