Welcome from the Principal

I am delighted that you are interested in joining Rochdale Sixth Form College when it opens in September 2010. You will be part of history as one of the first students to walk through the doors of what will be the most exciting and newest sixth form college development in the country.

Julian Appleyard

I am very privileged to have been chosen to be the first Principal of our College. I want to assure you from the outset, whether you are a prospective student or parent that every young person who walks through our doors will receive a first class deal. You will be genuinely valued as an individual.

The motto for Rochdale Sixth Form College is “A level of excellence” which reflects our focus on quality teaching, learning and support for our students. All staff in the College will do their utmost to ensure you achieve your potential during your time with us. At Rochdale Sixth Form College, your role in the partnership with your teachers is to commit to learning and work hard – doing this now will pay off down the line. We want you to be able to follow a career path that you will truly enjoy and that gives you what you want out of life. We believe that you will only do this if you enjoy your time at College, able to learn in a safe, caring and happy environment.

For most people, 16 to 19 is an exciting time in their lives, but challenging too. Taking on new responsibilities, managing your time, planning your courses and finding a route through all the exciting possibilities that await you are all things you need help with. Our job is to ensure we put that personalised support in place so that you leave Rochdale Sixth Form College as confident and articulate young people ready for the next step – whether that is work or higher education.

Sixth Form College life, of course, should not just be about studying, but should also provide opportunities to take part in sport, music, drama, dance as well as visits to places in this country and abroad. These are what will help you develop as well educated young men and women and I strongly urge you to take part in the many and varied enrichment activities that will be on offer.

We believe that the young people in the borough of Rochdale deserve the very best. Rochdale Sixth Form College will be exactly that. A state-of-art brand new building and the most up to date technology will be coupled with high quality staff, who truly believe in you. If you want to reach your potential and fulfil your ambitions, RSFC is the place for you.

I look forward to meeting you in your school and to receiving your application as you join us on this exciting journey.

Best wishes,
Julian Appleyard
